FLASHBACKS - THE VANCOUVER ISLAND STORY: by brian zelley

The current 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games gives us an opportunity to look back of past Vancouver Island Commonwealth Games stars.  One of the initial pieces on this topic appeared in Victoria's Times-Colonist October 3rd. called
"ISLAND ATHLETES SHONE OVER THE YEARS"
Fifteen athletes covered in the story were
Simon Whitfield, Angela Chalmers, Phil Olsen, Philip Delasalle, Roland Green,
Bill Dale,  Peter Salmon, Terry Tobacco, Bob Wheaton, Art Stott. Debbie Bowker,
Diane Cummins, Seamus McGrath, Kiaro Bisard, and Rick Say.

ANGELA CHALMERS was one of the medal winners in the
1994 Victoria Commonwealth Games as a middle distance runner.
Step back forty years and it was the BRITISH EMPIRE GAMES in Vancouver
where TERRY TOBACCO shined.

There have been other athletes in boxing tournaments such as
EDDIE HADDAD, FRED DESROSIERS and DONALD (Donnie) ORR.
